CO2 dosering is veiliger dan zuurdosering

Pahlén AB, Zweeds fabrikant van zwembadmateriaal voor de professionele zwembadindustrie, wil het gebruik van CO2 voor pH-stabilisatie stimuleren op de Europese zwembadmarkt. Lange tijd geleden werden gelijkaardige meet- en doseertoestellen voor controle en stabilisatie van pH vanuit de Verenigde Staten naar Europa ingevoerd. Na het beëindigen van de ondersteunende activiteiten vanuit de USA verdween deze doseermethode langzaam van de meeste Europese markten.

In Scandinavië bleef dit een veel voorkomende techniek voor zowel openbare- als residentiële zwembaden. Vooral het natuurvriendelijke karakter en de absolute veiligheid spelen hier een erg belangrijke rol. CO2 is een 100% natuurlijk product zonder negatieve bijwerking(en). Bovendien is het directe contact tussen CO2 en Natriumhypochloriet (NaOCl) ongevaarlijk, dit in tegenstelling tot direct contact tussen NaOCl en zoutzuur of zwavelzuur met dodelijk chloorgas als resultaat. Beide laatste zuren worden veelvuldig gebruikt om de pH in zwembaden te verlagen en kunnen dus erg makkelijk vervangen worden door CO2.
pH-MiniDos is een injectiesysteem om CO2 te injecteren in zwembadwater. pH-MiniDos kan eenvoudig worden gebruikt in combinatie met andere toestellen die een contact geven aan een doseerpomp via de standaard aan/uit-functie.
CO2 wordt in metalen drukflessen aan huis geleverd via brouwers(Biervaten) en leveranciers van industriële gassen.
pH-dosering/verlaging via toedienen van CO2 is een erg makkelijke, budget- en milieuvriendelijke maar bovenal veilige methode.

Voordelen:

• Goedkoper in verbruik van chemicaliën; minder chloor verbruik
• Minder oxidanten aanwezig in de lucht boven het zwembad (Astma problematiek)
• Verminderde vorming van trihalomethanen (Chloorgeur) in het zwembadwater
• Geen toevoeging van Cl of SO4 ionen in het zwembadwater
• Manipulatie met een CO2 gascilinder i.p.v. bidon vloeibaar corrosief zuur
• Geen ongevallen mogelijk door verwisselen en mengen HOCl met HCl of H2SO4 met chloorgaswolk als dodelijk gevolg
• Reduceert de corrosiviteit van het zwembadwater en stabiliseert de pH waarde
• Geen corrosieve dampen in de technische ruimte
• Minder gevaar voor excessieve lage pH in het zwembadwater. Dus geen gevaar voor corrosie aan inox delen. CO2 is een zwak zuur, de laagste pH waarde die kan bereikt worden is 6.8, zelfs onder accidentele omstandigheden
• Restproduct is natuurlijk bicarbonaat welk de buffercapaciteit (TAC) voor de pH van het water verhoogd
• Risico analyse als milieu/veiligheidschef: Eerste stap is kijken of er veiliger alternatieven zijn om de risico’s met chloor te elimineren. CO2 is de veiligste oplossing

pH-MiniDos – pH regulation with CO2
pH-MiniDos is stable and easy to use for stabilizing the pH value with CO2 (carbon dioxide). Pahlén has a long experience of manufactoring CO2-facilities for public baths. pH-Minidos offers pH stabilization for private pools.

pH-MiniDos is a control unit that is easily operated via MiniMaster. The MiniMaster measures the water pH and sends signals to the pH-MiniDos, which with high precision, doses the exact amount of CO2 needed for the pool. When the carbon dioxide dissolves in the pool water, it reduces the pH value and keeps it at a stable level.
High safety with many advantages
pH-MiniDos safely balances the pH by using carbon dioxide. One big advantage is the handling of a gas cylinder with CO2 rather than dealing with liquid acid. Less maintenance and more time for bathing. Pahlén pH-MiniDos is easy to install, easy to use.

CO2 forms a mild carbonic acid for pH control (pH > 6;8)
CO2 forms natural bicarbonate which assists in the stabilisation of the pH level.
CO2 is colourless, odourless and a non-flammable gas. It is easy to handle and dose and is dangerous only if released into a confined area.
It requires no special protective equipment
Under COSHH regulations a pool operator must carry out a risk assessment in selecting the chemicals to use in a pool. The first step is to ascertain whether using an alternative
process or chemical can eliminate the risk - CO2 scores on this count

- Deliveries are unlikely to result in emergencies because of spillages and, where ventilation is good, CO2 does not demand any special safety monitoring for leakage
- Unlike mineral acids, itis not possible to mix CO2 with sodiumhypochlorite or calciumhypochlorite
(in liquid form) through spillage in bunds or operator error. This means there is no possibility of accidental production of chlorine gas - a significant hazard in swimming pool installations
- Due to its natural buffering action, CO2 provides improved process control. pH reduction is more gradual than with mineral acids making accurate control inherently easier but sometimes slower.

CO2 Injector
An essential part of any CO2 system - the injector. The injector has been specifically designed so that the injection quill / defuser can easily be removed for cleaning without the need to isolate the circulation line.
